Why We Left Los Angeles

Why We Left Los Angeles

Why did we leave LA? Let me fill ya in.

FIrst, a cute picture of Forrest @ Griffith Observatory.

Los Angeles is such an interesting place. This is going to be a short and sweet blog (i think) because this is just my experience in the city. However, I definitely think that when it comes to moving to LA, all experiences are typically taken into account. I know when we were thinking about moving to the city we asked all of our friends that have been there what they thought about it. So if you've always dreamt of it but are a little unsure, if you're thinking about making the move, or if you're just wondering why we left Los Angeles, here ya go.

When you move to a new city, especially one as big as Los Angeles, you hope and pray for the magical moment. The magical moment where the stars align for one quick second and you say ah-ha, I am supposed to be here. Well, Evan and I never expereinced that in the Los Angeles. The more we thought about it, the more we got confused. Living in a new place was supposed to be the best ever in the beginning, but that's not how it was for us. We all know that the bad comes before the good, but we still missed out on that ah-ha moment.

Griffith Observatory Hike

Once we realized that we didn't experience that after three months of being there, we started listening to our heart. Wait, lets rewind for a second. Don't get me wrong, moving to Los Angeles was one of the coolest experiences I have gone through. The city is definiley alive, and full of SO many things to see and do. You can never really be bored in the city, even if you tried. The diversity, the hustle, the weather, the people - everything is just like you imagine, times 10. Los Angeles is a lot, full of never ending stories and extremely interesting people, the city has it's depths. That being said, we would both go back to visit in a second. Even an extended vacay, it's just not our home.

As soon as we began to listen to our heart, we realized we were on that extended vacay just with all of our belongings. After being away from our family for 4 years, I'm not sure how we thought Los Angeles would feel like home. I always tell people, it wasn't the city because it genuinely wasn't the speed and energy of the city. Yes, Los Angeles is fast, everyone is there for the same reasons, and there is A LOT of people to handle, but I feel like we had that down pat. The city is definitley a hard place to be in, but it was more so a check off our bucket list. I feel like we would still be there if we would've had that moment of the stars aligning, but we knew we were ready to be in a place that was more our vibe (and near friends and family). So, we chose to drive on over to Detroit, MI to be near family and to fully indlugle in the rise of the city. We just had to give Los Angeles our best try, and that's exactly what we did.

Moving across the country from Nashville to LA for 3 months, to then turn around and drive another 2,600 miles to Detroit sounds crazy to majority of the people we talk to. But, we tried and don't regret one mile, dollar, tear, smile, hike, friend, memory...you name it. This experience was part of our journey individually and together, Los Angeles just wasn't our home (and we can't wait to REALLY have all four seasons again). I guess that is just our story and experience with the city. Take it into consideration or don't, all I have to say is make sure you have tough skin. It may be the biggest city in the United States but if you're not ready for it, it can feel pretty lonely. If you are ready for it, it will be the best decision you've ever made.

Take the risk & grow.
